So you want to fall in love.

If it doesn’t come bursting out you,

everytime you see her,

Don’t do it.

Unless you have to speak up,

And it will not stay in your heart,

And your mind and your gut has no say on anything at all,

Don’t do it.

If you have to list down the reasons and create a mental checklist,

Don’t do it.

If you are doing it for love in return,

Don’t do it.

If you are doing it to have someone sleeping next to you in bed,

Don’t do it.

If you have to close your eyes and picture her , to feel the same way, over and over again,

Don’t do it.

If it’s hard work just thinking about the extremes of it,

Don’t do it.

If you want to love like someone else,

Forget about it.

If you have to wait, for someone to come and rip it out of you

Then wait patiently.

If you never do find someone else,

Love something else.

If you have to first make her meet your parents or your friends or your dog

Then you’re not in it yet.

Don’t be like so many lovers,

Don’t be like so many thousands of people who call themselves lovers

Don’t be tepid and halfhearted, and for god’s sake don’t be romantic.

Don’t be consumed by the poetry of it.

The hearts of millions have beat themselves to steady deaths.

Don’t add to that.

Don’t do it.

Unless it comes out of your soul like a rocket,

Unless not saying it would drive you to murder or suicide and yet it would not end,

Don’t do it.

Unless the joy inside you is burning its way out, and the words will not stop on pain of hellfire,

Don’t do it.

When it is truly time, and you have finally chosen,

It will do it by itself, unless you die (it never dies in you.)

There is no other way.

There never was.

(If you have to google the original words, don’t read it.)
